Key Takeaways

Google is collaborating with the Bitcoin industry to improve accessibility for mainstream users.
There is a focus on enhancing Bitcoin wallets and security to align with web2 standards.
Google is working on making Bitcoin wallets as user-friendly as web2 apps, according to Kyle Song, APAC web3 Specialist at Google Cloud, speaking at the Bitcoin Tech Carnival in Hong Kong. His statement was first shared by a South Korean crypto news site.
Song added that Google’s vision is a future where users can log into Bitcoin wallets using their existing Google accounts. The goal, he said, is to make Bitcoin more accessible to mainstream users.
The launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs in 2024 has created an easier path for major web2 companies like Google to enter the Bitcoin industry, Song said. The tech giant has been collaborating with companies and developers in the Bitcoin space since last year.

“We are exploring ways to lower entry barriers so web2 users can easily use Bitcoin,” Song said.
Addressing the technical challenges of bridging the gap between traditional and blockchain-based finance, Song noted that Google is focused on security improvements.

“We’re also researching solutions to address trust issues between on-chain and off-chain systems,” he said, adding that Google is “particularly considering ways to enhance reliability using advanced encryption technologies like zero-knowledge proofs (ZKP).”
Google has integrated several well-known web3 projects as part of its efforts to expand in areas such as layer 1/layer 2 solutions, Multi-Party Computation (MPC), and data indexing.
Last September, Google Cloud introduced a new Ethereum-compatible Blockchain Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service designed to facilitate blockchain development for web3 developers.
Layer 1 blockchain Sui has also partnered with Google Cloud through an integration facilitated by ZettaBlock. The collaboration allows developers to access real-time blockchain data from Sui via Google Cloud’s Pub/Sub service, enabling the creation of innovative applications across various industries.
